When you see this

A person opened an activation link or an invitation that is valid and unused, and the organization it belongs to cannot be entered right now. The link was checked in full before this answer: it is genuine, it has not expired and it has not been used. Nothing was spent, so the same link still works later, within its lifetime.

The operation that answers it is the console's sign-in endpoint, POST /api/v3/auth/authorize-challenge, when it starts an activation or an invitation. The console shows the person that the organization is not available right now and that the invitation is still valid.

Common Causes

  • The organization is temporarily suspended. Once it is reactivated, the same link starts the activation or the invitation as usual.

Every other link answers the single generic refusal 400 invalid_grant instead: a link that is not genuine, has expired or was already used, and a link of an organization that has been closed or no longer exists. This answer therefore never tells a person holding an invalid link anything about an organization.

Content-Type: application/problem+json — the response follows RFC 9457 Problem Details, with Cache-Control: no-store. The detail is one fixed sentence that names no organization, account, state or expiry. No auth_session is issued and no Retry-After is sent, because nothing about the link changes with time: the organization's administrators decide when it can be entered again.

How to Resolve

  1. Keep the link. It stays valid until the expiry it was issued with.
  2. Ask the person who invited you when the organization will be available again, and open the same link then.
  3. If the link expires while the organization is unavailable, nothing needs to be requested: when the organization is reactivated, everyone still waiting is sent a new link by email.
