Crypto Playground Runtime Unreachable

When you see this

The Admin API could not reach the cryptographic service to run a Cryptographic Playground operation: the connection was refused or its TLS verification failed before the request was written. The operation was not executed, and extensions.executionStatus says so with NOT_EXECUTED.

Returned by POST /api/v3/admin/tenants/{tenantId}/crypto-playground/execute (executeCryptoPlaygroundOperation). The operator's audit record was written before the attempt, so one record exists with no cryptographic record to match it. extensions.runtimeCorrelationId names the execution on that record.

A failure after the request was written is never this type: the operation may have run, and the answer is 504 Crypto Playground Execution Status Unknown.

Common Causes

  • The environment's edge is restarting or not yet ready.
  • The certificate the edge presents does not verify against the environment's certificate authority.

How to Resolve

  1. Run the operation again: nothing was executed, and no use was spent. The relay itself never retries.
  2. If it keeps failing, ask the operator of the environment to check the health of the edge and of the cryptographic service.
