Set my console language and time zone
Choose the language the console speaks to you, and the time zone it shows dates and times in.
Who can do it
Any person who signs in, for themselves. No role or permission is needed.
- The time zone is stored with your account, so it follows you to every browser you sign in from. While you act in a tenant under support access, the Time zone dialog shows your own zone and offers no change: exit the tenant to change it.
- The language is kept by this browser only. It is not stored with your account, so another browser starts in its own language.
Both are set from the header, not from the Security page.
Before you start
- Dates and times are stored in UTC; the zone changes only how the console shows them. Calendar days, the dates of signed licences and certificates, and exported files stay in UTC and are marked (UTC).
- If you choose no zone of your own, the console uses the platform's default zone.
Steps
To change the language:
- In the header, select the language button. It shows the current language, EN or ES, and screen readers announce it as Switch to Spanish or Switch to English.
To set your time zone:
- Open the account menu in the header and select Time zone.
- In Display time zone, choose a zone, or choose the platform default option to follow the platform's zone.
- Select Save.
What you see when it worked
The language changes at once on every screen of this browser, and stays chosen the next time you open the console in it.
The time zone: the console says "Time zone saved", and every date and time on screen is shown in the chosen zone. The Time zone dialog states the zone in force, for example "Dates are shown in Europe/Madrid."
If it fails
| What you see | Cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "Your time zone could not be read, so dates are shown in UTC." | The console could not read your preferences | Reload the page; dates stay in UTC until the read succeeds |
| A refusal of the zone, and the dialog stays open | The zone is not a region time zone (a fixed offset or an abbreviation is refused) or is unknown | Choose a region zone from the list |
| A refusal saying the preferences changed meanwhile | Your account record was changed at the same moment, for example from another browser | Close the dialog, open it again and save once more |
| "You are acting in a tenant, so your time zone cannot be changed here." | You are acting in a tenant under support access | Exit the tenant, then change it |
Without the console
The language has no API: it is a setting of the browser.
| Surface | How |
|---|---|
| API | GET /api/v3/me/preferences (operation getCurrentUserPreferences); PUT /api/v3/me/preferences with displayTimeZone, or null to follow the platform default (operation replaceCurrentUserPreferences) |
